Embrace the glitch...


My first game jam entry after a couple weeks of game dev. It's not perfect, but it's probably better than I expected. The darkness theme is loosely interpreted by the 1-bit aesthetic, while the limitation of "you are your own enemy" is actualized by the clones that mimic the player movements. I had planned on trying Unity out for this jam, but I felt more confident in getting a playable game done in the 72 hour timeline using Construct 3. I was hugely inspired by Rumblecade's excellent sprites (Astro Sprites 1-B) available here on itch.io. I recorded a completely original soundtrack (opening music, level music, and hatch opening sound effect) for the game - something I hadn't done yet. It took up some of the time I could have used to fix the wall glitch (see below), but I'm fine with that right now.

Known glitch: sometimes the clones will pop through a couple spots in the maze if you pack too many in the adjacent area. I may fix this later, but honestly, once I realized this is a possibility it added an incentive not to stack too many clones in the corners.
